About the event
About the Event: Thursday’s 25th Estelle Witherspoon Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony honors the enduring legacy of Estelle Witherspoon, a founding member of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund, civil rights advocate, and nationally recognized cooperative leader. As a founding member of the Freedom Quilting Bee, Mrs. Witherspoon helped create economic opportunities and strengthen self-determination for Black rural communities across the South through cooperative enterprise and community leadership. Inducted into the Cooperative Hall of Fame on October 9, 2025, her legacy continues to inspire generations today. Bringing together farmers, landowners, cooperatives, and community leaders, this special gathering is a celebration of economic justice, collective power, and leadership across the rural South.
